The OPW Heritage Card is your pass to a year of great days out at Ireland's state-managed heritage sites. Cardholders get free, unlimited admission to every fee-paying site in the Office of Public Works' care, from castles and abbeys to cathedrals and much more. The card runs for twelve months from its first use, so you can buy it well ahead of a trip, and it arrives with a map brochure of OPW heritage sites.
Why it works
The Heritage Card is a simple, good-value way to explore Irish heritage. One payment covers free admission to all OPW heritage sites for a full year, as often as you like, and the OPW points out that it can save money even if you only visit a few places. Pricing is clear and inclusive, with separate cards for adults, seniors aged 60 and over, students, young people aged 12 to 18 and families, while children under 12 already go free. Because the year only starts on first use, visitors can buy early and plan at leisure. Cards ordered online are posted free with a brochure listing every OPW visitor site, or they can be bought on the spot at any fee-paying OPW site. The card covers tour admissions at the sites. Its reach goes beyond Ireland too: Manx National Heritage accepts OPW Heritage Cards, and the OPW also gives English Heritage members free entry to its sites. It also makes an easy gift, because buyers can have the card posted straight to the recipient.
